Taking on this beloved show with a very limited timeline was an extremely welcome challenge! I decided to focus in on the fairy moments as I felt they required the most sonic support. Using a tongue drum, a singing bowl, a kalimba, and the power of Logic and QLab, I created the magical world of this fairy society in the woods. I focused on supporting the ever-shifting power dynamics between Oberon and Titania, representing the literal magic taking place via the enchanting love flower, and boosting Puck’s playfulness and power as he controls the humans in the play. All strengthened by a utilization of the five speaker rep system allowing the magic to follow Puck around, announcing his entrances and coinciding with his antics spatially as well as energetically. I also supported many comedic moments throughout the rest of the show. The Lonely Goatherd from The Sound of Music became the anthem of the mechanicals. Careless Whisper by George Michael became the recurring theme for Bottom and Titania’s love affair. And a variety of other moments received sonic support.
